Safe Grilling Guide

Grill safety starts with Grill education

Before you start planning your next barbeque, dig into that junk drawer and grab the saftey instructions that came with your grill. Read them thoroughly as things such as gas build up are very real safety hazards that you need to be aware of.

Get to know your Gas Lines

Grills connected to natural gas lines or bulk storage are built with a safety shut off switch. Look around and nearby, if you can’t find it give your outdoor kitchen builder a phone call. Get comfortable with the location of the shut off switch and test that it functions correctly.

Light her up!

Now that your familiar with how to operate your grill safety lets go over a few general lighting procedures, but be sure to confirm them with the owners manual of your particular make and model of gas grill.

  • Always make sure all burner valves are in the OFF position before opening the gas line for your gas grill.
  • Ensure that your grills hood is in the open position, this helps minimize gas build up. With the grill up open the gas line.
  • With the grill hood in the open position light the gas burners, if the burners don’t ignite within 5 seconds, turn them off and allow the gas to dissipate and then try again.

Safety Padding

Great outdoor kitchen layouts will always ensure that at least 20 inches separate the sides and back from accidental contact, helping to keep children and pets safe from potential burns.
