Originally installed by Lennar, the outdoor kitchen already featured a stone backsplash behind the grill area. After years of heavy BBQ use, smoke, grease, and heat exposure had permanently stained the stone directly behind the grill. While the outdoor kitchen itself was still highly functional, the homeowner wanted a cleaner, more modern, and easier-to-maintain solution.

This project focused specifically on upgrading the grill wall area while preserving the remainder of the existing outdoor kitchen structure.

The scope of work included:

• Removal of the existing stone backsplash located directly behind the grill and beneath the vent hood
• Fabrication and installation of a custom 3D stainless steel backsplash panel
• Precision fitting of the backsplash to match the existing outdoor kitchen layout

The custom backsplash was fabricated to approximately 36 inches wide to align with the vent hood above. It was also designed to extend from the countertop surface to the bottom of the hood enclosure for a seamless integrated appearance.

To match the typical depth of the granite countertop edge, the stainless steel was bent with a 1 ¼-inch depth profile. This small fabrication detail creates a finished professional appearance while helping the backsplash integrate naturally into the existing outdoor kitchen design.

A Fast Outdoor Kitchen Upgrade with a Dramatic Visual Impact

One of the major advantages of a stainless steel backsplash upgrade is that it can often be completed quickly with minimal disruption to the homeowner.

While the backsplash installation itself is typically a fast process, homeowners should be aware that certain outdoor kitchen configurations may require additional time depending on how the grill is connected.

For outdoor kitchens with hard-piped propane or natural gas lines, the grill may need to remain disconnected for several days while a certified gas vendor performs:

• Reconnection of the appliance

If the grill uses a standard 20 lb exchangeable LP tank stored inside the cabinet, this extended downtime generally does not apply.
