Spanish Wells Community Southwest Florida – Toll Brothers Homes

This outdoor kitchen was built in a Toll Brothers home in Spanish Wells.  This home, like most of the homes we build outdoor kitchens in, came complete with the summer kitchen rough-in. And although the plumbing was in place, the customer opted not to use it and instead substituted another component in place of the sink. The Silver Travertine stacked stone and Level 1 Santa Cecilia Black granite complimented the existing paint and paver colors so well.  As you can see in the before photos, the soot from the grill had left bit of an eye-sore on the wall color.  For easier cleaning and removal of the smoke residue, we added the 36” high by 36” wide granite backsplash under the hood and behind the grill.

The following components were installed in this outdoor kitchen:

Modification To A Builder’s Outside Kitchen

Hood installation & stainless steel backsplash in Taylor Morrison home
This was a wonderful modification to an existing outside kitchen in a Taylor Morrison home. The customer, being a builder, installed the outside kitchen, but unfortunately, it did not come with a hood. Additionally, as you can see in the before photo, the customer was getting a lot of smoke residue built up on the stucco façade behind the grill. We added a 36” Trade-Wind Hood, which vented through the back exterior wall conveniently. For easier maintenance with the smoke residue, we had a 3D stainless steel backsplash fabricated to fit perfectly under the hood. The depth of the backsplash was 1 ¼” just like the depth of the 4″ granite backsplash that it sits upon.

Our goal when we construct any project, no matter how large or small, is for it to look like it was always part of the original build.  This small addition fits seamlessly with the existing outdoor area.

Whether you need a custom outdoor vent hood for your outside kitchen or the complete outdoor kitchen design and construction, Elegant Outdoor Kitchens is here for you! An Outdoor Fireplace Project in Naples, Florida

Built-in rectangular fire pan Collier Co. The fire pan was installed by Elegant Outdoor Kitchens of Southwest Florida.

A unique plan for an outdoor fire feature:

Although this project has a familiar ring to it as far as the outdoor kitchen aspect is concerned, it does have a few unique features that give it some added functional elegance. The customer requested that we design & construct an entertaining area with a built-in outdoor fireplace. We used a combination of materials & components to deliver this beautiful custom fireplace & outdoor living sanctuary.

When constructing this beautiful outdoor kitchen, we used our traditional methods for the layout and framing of the fireplace cabinet — using powder-coated aluminum that’s rated for outdoor use, and then covering with a wet weather-resistant type of backer board for the stone facade, the wet weather backer board is perfect for our Southwest Florida climate. Flanking the outdoor fireplace on each side are a couple of quality outdoor-rated cabinets from American Outdoor Cabinets in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.

Although this project may seem straightforward enough, the installation details are commonly overlooked by most. Our detailed design & installation process paid off in the end. We wanted the entire project to look like it was built together and not three separate add-ons sitting side by side. We designed the granite countertops to recess into the stacked stone of the fireplace. Due to the multi-dimensional nature of the stacked stone, we wanted the stacked stone to abut into the cabinets behind the doors. Finally, at the toe kick, we installed the stacked stone to run into the cabinetry rather than the reverse. We believe the details are the difference between attaining a haphazardly look or cohesive final result. That’s the Elegant Outdoor Kitchens difference. Our products are always designed and constructed as if they were getting installed in our own outdoor living space.

Custom Outdoor Living Project Details:

The fireplace was a 48” Superior outdoor fireplace VRE4600 series.  The cabinet consisted of an 18” W three drawer cabinet, 32” & 22” wide drawer cabinets with two doors.  We also installed a Blaze 5.2 cubic foot outdoor rated refrigerator.

The design selections were the Silver Travertine stacked stone, a mocha cabinet color with the modern door and paired with a level 1 New Caldonea granite.

A Well-Planned Summer Kitchen

L Shape outdoor kitchen with pillar and open below bar
Esplanade Golf & Country Club - Southwest Florida

Esplanade Golf & Country Club – Southwest Florida

A plan for a new summer kitchen:

The planning for this summer kitchen began about four months before the project started. Our customers often have busy travel schedules and are not always living in the area locally. We are more than happy to meet with them in the early stages when they are available. Planning the outdoor kitchen projects out well in advance allows us to get a quick start shortly after their closing.

This Taylor Morrison home in the Esplanade had a large lanai but not a ton of wall space. In order to accommodate the outdoor kitchen the homeowner envisioned, we closed in a 5’3” long opening. We then had a stucco company come out to match the façade of the new wall to the existing stucco.

Summer Outdoor Kitchen Details:

This beautiful L-shaped outdoor kitchen is 12’9″ in length. There is a support pillar for the granite countertop on the right-hand side. Both the base and pillar are framed with aluminum and wrapped with a wet weather backer board. The façade along the exposed sides is a stacked stone (Cappadocia).

The countertop and side/backsplash are a level 1 granite (Ornamento). The side splash on the left is 4″ in height. The backsplash is 12″ in height, rising to 36″ for a width of 36″, centered under the hood and behind the grill. The bar top supported by the pillar is 8’10” in length (as measured from the back of the grill cabinet) and it is 1’4″ in-depth on the right side and 2’1″ in depth at the center. The support pillar is positioned so that there is a 10″ overhang on its right side.

There was also a second opening that the builder provides for ventilation in the absence of a vent hood. Since we were adding the vent, we closed in this existing and finished it with a stucco facade.

The following components were installed:

An External Kitchen Built On The River

Custom Outdoor Kitchen Design - Lee County, Florida - Elegant Outdoor Kitchens SWFL

Quick Summary:

This external kitchen was built in a beautiful Caloosahatchee riverfront home in Cape Coral! This home is the definition of Florida living and we were the ones lucky enough to give it the outdoor kitchen the homeowner had envisioned. This was a pretty simplistic design and we were able to give this homeowner a custom built outdoor kitchen within a matter of days.

Details:

At 7’6” long we had enough space to build in the components that were most important to the customer.  These included the following:

The customer carried the Light Travertine façade of the cabinet base up to the backsplash for a height of 36”.  This color pairs so nicely with the Peacock Green level 1 granite.

Barbecue Island – A Total Transformation

L-shape outdoor kitchen

An improvement to an Barbecue Island summarized:

To start off, this barbecue island was the first where we installed a back wall and roof covering using insulated panels. The customer had a big lanai area but wasn’t utilizing the space to the best of its ability and as a result, it was also open and hot. As a focus, we came in and built a back wall to back up too and also added a roof covering. A stucco façade was then applied to the back wall to match the existing stucco exterior. By keeping the area under cover, the components will stay much cleaner, need polished less often and any seams in the granite will hold up much better.

The Final Result:

A beautiful L-shaped outdoor kitchen. The cabinet base housing the grill is 7’11” in length. Coming off the front of the right side, the section housing the refrigerator is 8’2″ in length (as measured from the wall behind the grill). As with all of our outdoor kitchens, the base is framed with aluminum and wrapped with a wet weather backer board. The façade along the front, right and left sides of the outdoor kitchen is a Light Travertine stacked stone.

Details:

This is our favorite part to discuss! The countertop and backsplash are an upgraded Black San Gabriel granite. Please note, installing a larger back splash behind the grill means less maintenance since the smoke residue from the grill can simply be wiped off. So behind the grill we increase the size of the 4″ high backsplash. Further, to soften the look of this large 36” wide piece of granite that is centered behind the grill; the backsplash rises and arcs to approximately 35″ high at the center with the corners being 4” lower.

Please see the following components that were included in one of this summer’s kitchen projects:

We are so pleased with the total transformation of this space and hope the Customer gets immeasurable enjoyment from the space for year’s to come!

The Visionary’s Barbecue Island Design Project

Elegant Outdoor Kitchens professional design team

The Visionary Needed A Custom Barbecue Island Design – Prefabricated Just Wouldn’t Cut It!

This was a sizeable barbecue island design project, at times it was challenging, entertaining and rewarding all at the same time.  This homeowner definitely had a vision for this project long before we ever entered the picture.  They already had the grill, which they loved, so they needed that built into the new base.  They wanted a big hood with a powerful motor.  And they wanted a separate buffet with some storage underneath.

First let’s discuss the L-shape outdoor kitchen. The cabinet base housing the grill is 6’5″ in length. On the right side, there is a perpendicular section that extends 7’2″ from the back of the grill base. The base is framed with aluminum and wrapped with a wet weather backer board. The façade along the exposed sides is a stacked stone (Cappadocia – click for available options).

The countertop and granite backsplash are a level 3 granite (Creama Bourdeaux). The backsplash is 4″ in height, rising to 36″ high for a width of 42″, centered under the hood and behind the grill. There is a 10″ overhang off the back of the refrigerator base.

The remainder of the wall behind the grill, not covered by the cabinet base, granite or hood is a 4″x4″ Cappadocia tile on a diagonal.

The following components were incorporated into the base of the outdoor kitchen:

The 6’8” buffet was constructed using the same materials as the L-shape summer kitchen.  The following components were incorporated into the buffet:

A Truly Elegant Way to Enjoy Your Time with Friends and Family

It is no surprise that this new custom barbecue island design was constructed in a home in the Verandah in Fort Myers. The Verandah is a community that wonderfully combines the outdoor lifestyle with camaraderie of its residents. We definitely see the neighbors gathering around this stunning entertaining area to enjoy each other’s company. This custom built outdoor living area is perfect for those regular evening BBQ’s as well as the occasional intimate gathering among more than a few friends. One thing is for certain though, they’ll always have a beautiful outdoor kitchen that enables them to serve amazing BBQ to their friends and loved ones.

Pulte Homes – Corkscrew Shores Custom Outdoor Kitchen Project by Elegant Outdoor Kitchens

Another Custom Outdoor Kitchen in Corkscrew Shores

We built this beautiful custom outdoor kitche in a home built by Pulte in Corkscrew Shores, we designed it to fit the existing space within the home of 12’10” wide. The area we constructed the kitchen in had two parallel walls that created the perfect nook for an outdoor kitchen. It’s highly unlikely that you’ll get a prefabricated outdoor kitchen to fit as well as our custom built solutions. This outdoor kitchen is aesthetically appealing, functional, and it looks like it came with the home. The client opted to have some of the most commonly installed outdoor kitchen components; those elements are as follows:

This design offers tons of counterspace which always comes in handy.  Like the majority of our customer’s, this homeowner opted for a level 1 granite and the color choice was an Ornamento White.  This granite when paired with the Silver Travertine stacked stone is always easy on the eyes.

Because this outdoor kitchen is encapsulated by two side walls, we installed the typical 4” backsplash and a 4” side splash on each side.  For ease with cleaning that pesky smoke residue, the granite backsplash rises to 36” high for the width of the 36” vent hood.

Fixing A “Pre-Fabricated Outdoor Kitchen” – Outdoor Kitchen Remodel

This outdoor kitchen remodel is a primary example of why we do not install pre-fabricated outdoor kitchens.  Our outdoor kitchen bases are all custom and built on-site.  The walls of the homes we construct custom outdoor kitchens in are never square, and the lanais will always have a slope for drainage. We understand that pre-fabricated outdoor kitchens have their place.  However, you do not need to hire us, a licensed Contractor, to roll something out of a box and onto your back lanai.  All of our custom outdoor kitchens are built to integrate with the design of your existing home seamlessly; the results look far superior when compared to the latter. Simply put, we build the project on-site, so it looks like part of the original home.  A wooden shim that sits under your outdoor kitchen isn’t very sophisticated. It does not reach anywhere near aesthetically acceptable for our own home, so why would we do it to our customers?  That is no exaggeration, be sure to check out the before & after photos to see for yourself. Using a licensed custom outdoor kitchen contractor has its benefits and state-sanctioned guarantees.

Why Would The “Other Guys” Do It That Way?

The competition either can’t obtain or feel they don’t need to get a state contractor license. It’s a loophole within our state regulations. The “pre-fabricated outdoor kitchens” do not fall under the state regulatory rules concerning construction and property additions. This loophole exists because of one simple reason, and that’s because the “pre-fabricated outdoor kitchen” isn’t attached to the structure of the house (well usually, if they are following the rules). It’s comparable to a deck chair, table or some other type of patio furnishing. Or even better yet, a fire pit.

This renovation was considered a modification of an existing outdoor kitchen in Lely in Naples, Florida.  Since this outdoor kitchen was not all that old, the homeowner was looking to keep the majority of the existing summer kitchen while sprucing it up a bit.

We wanted to install a stacked stone façade, but it was not an option for this project due to the thickness of the stacked stone.

For the project, we installed Gioia 3D beige 6×24 tile over the existing stucco base. The Gioia had a stacked stone look that worked well with the design. We had a custom stainless trim kit for the existing refrigerator.

For Safeties Sake

For safety reasons, we also added two vents for the existing outdoor kitchen base. The backsplash was a 32 (H) x 36 (W) inch granite, centered under the hood and behind the grill. Using granite as a backsplash directly behind the grill makes cleaning smoke residue a bit easier.  The patience of the homeowner through the entire process was exemplary, along with the expertise of the professionals at the granite yard, we were able to get a pretty close match to the existing granite.  Off to the sides of the granite backsplash, the homeowner selected a 4×4 inch beige marble tumbled tile.  We installed the 4-inch tile a little higher than the bottom of the vent hood and finished it with a wood vein gray marble polished linear trim piece.

The original vent hood had a couple of functionality issues that were cause for concern. The initial complaint was that it continually popped the breaker (definitely not a good sign), and upon inspection, we discovered it was not an outdoor rated, nor was it wide enough to provide adequate smoke capture. The homeowners decided the best course of action would be to install a new, larger hood that was outdoor rated. Once the Trade-Wind 36-inch vent hood was installed, we added a custom stainless-steel vent cover fabricated for it.

The outdoor kitchen remodel turned out just the way we envisioned, and the homeowners could not have been happier with the upgrade to their outdated outdoor kitchen design.
