After years of heavy BBQ use, smoke, grease, and heat exposure had permanently stained the stone directly behind the grill. While the outdoor kitchen itself was still highly functional, the homeowner wanted a cleaner, more modern, and easier-to-maintain solution.

Special Order Coal Canyon Stacked Stone Installation

One of the standout design elements of this Terreno outdoor kitchen is the dramatic Special Order Coal Canyon stacked stone installed across both the façade and the full-height backsplash wall.

The darker stone creates a bold contrast against the stainless steel appliances and white stucco walls, giving the kitchen a clean modern aesthetic with natural texture and depth.

Because the right side of the kitchen was intentionally spaced slightly away from the sliding glass doors, the stacked stone was extended all the way to floor level between the cabinet and wall. This small detail creates a polished finished appearance and eliminates unfinished transitions.

This homeowner also selected the upgraded 8-inch granite backsplash option instead of the standard 4-inch backsplash. Choosing the taller backsplash allowed the existing builder-installed electrical outlets to be relocated directly into the granite surface.

This installation method creates a cleaner and more professional finished appearance because the outlet covers sit flush against the polished granite instead of protruding unevenly over the stacked stone texture.
