An Update to an Existing Summer Outdoor Kitchen

This was an update to an existing outdoor kitchen.  There were a couple of components that had seen better days and were in need of replacement.  Although we do not dive into completely remodeling outdoor kitchens and restructuring the framing, there are some updates that can be made.  For instance, if the replacement components are the same size or smaller than the existing components we are able to replace the old components.  In this case, we replaced the existing Alfresco components with an Alfresco 42″ Luxury Grill built-in with sear zone & rotisserie and an Alfresco sealed dry pantry AXEDSP-42L – Low Profile Model.  Because the original components were larger than the new ones, we had stainless pieces custom made to fill in the gaps.

The homeowner also wanted something to help with the smoke capture so we installed a 48” Trade-Wind hood.

We are happy to report that this outdoor kitchen is back up and running and better than ever!

Luna Pearl granite

Luna Pearl granite from Spain features a small intricate pattern of grays and whites. Luna Pearl is available in polished slabs and recommended for both commercial and residential projects including outdoor landscaping and flooring in climates with freezing temperatures. Indoor applications can include countertops, walls, backsplashes, and other design features.

This 11’9″ outdoor kitchen was built in a home constructed by Neal Communities in the Verandah in Fort Myers. This home, like most of the homes that we build outdoor kitchens in, was purchased by the customer with an outdoor kitchen rough-in package. If you have your choice, the rough-in packages with the builder are the way to go!

This outdoor kitchen base is framed with aluminum and then wrapped with a wet weather backer board that is resistant to mold and mildew. The color choice for the stacked stone façade was the Skyline. The countertop and backsplash were a level 1 Luna Pearl granite. We took the granite backsplash up to the height of the existing back wall at 9” above counter height.

Natural “Stacked Stone” Selection – Custom Outdoor Kitchen

Although this community is not right on the coast, it certainly feels like it when you pull into it. Sticking with the coastal theme in this outdoor kitchen was one of the main objectives during this project.

This 13’10” outdoor kitchen included the following components:

The base is framed with aluminum and wrapped with a wet weather backer board. The facade along the front is a stacked stone (Skyline – follow for more stacked stone color choices).

The countertop and side/backsplash are a level 1 Dallas White granite. The side/backsplash is 4″ in height. Centered behind the grill and for a width of 36″, the backsplash rises to 36″ at the corners and arcs 38″ at the center.

The Skyline stacked stone was installed as an additional backsplash on the remainder of the back wall not covered by the granite.

The fall season certainly brought the L-Shape outdoor kitchen theme along with the nicer weather. It seemed that we were building one L-Shape outdoor kitchen after another this fall. This project was completed in the Esplanade at Hacienda Lakes in Naples, Florida.

The following components were included:

The cabinet base housing the grill is 9’6″ in length. Coming off the front of the left side, the fridge section will be 6’0″ in length (as measured from the wall behind the grill cabinet). The base is framed with aluminum and wrapped with a wet weather backer board. The façade is the Leonardo stacked stone.
The countertop and back/side splashes are a level 3 Fontana granite. Coming off the back of the refrigerator side, the bar overhang is 4″ and the corners and rounds to 10″ at the center. The side/backsplash is 4″ in height, rising to 36″ high for a width of 36″, centered under the hood and behind the grill.

This home is located in the Vineyards, a truly grand community. The customer had recently closed on this home, which had a huge outdoor living space but lacked a custo summer kitchen. The homeowners decided that an summer kitchen would be best situated in an area out near their pool. With a built-in configuration between the home and a pillar, the cabinet base housing the grill was 4’10” in length. Coming off the front of the right side, the section housing the refrigerator was 7’0″ in length (as measured from the existing pillar to the left of the refrigerator cabinet). The refrigerator side was a 2-tier cabinet base.

The custom summer kitchen base is framed with aluminum and wrapped with a wet weather backer board. The façade is a stacked stone per the drawings (Golden White). The Normandy granite countertop was a level 3 granite and was a close match to the existing granite on the interior of the home. Because the 2-tier bar top had 17″ depth and was going to be a showpiece, the customer made an additional trip back down to the granite yard for the layout. This allowed the customer to select specific parts of the slab for particular areas of the kitchen and bar top. This summer kitchen was worth the extra effort, and it turned out amazing.

Underlit or Backlit Glow – It’s Possible with Crystalo Granite

This is a unique and feature-rich custom outdoor kitchen build, the ambient glow that emanates from beneath the countertop at night is by far one of the most amazing features. This effect cannot be achieved with just any granite, though. We were able to achieve this remarkable effect due to the higher Quartz Crystal content (roughly 25% of the granite) of the Crystalo Granite.

The construction of this L-shape custom summer kitchen by Elegant Outdoor Kitchens is as unique as it is beautiful, completed in Paseo. If you haven’t heard of Paseo, it’s a Stock Development Community that revolves around outdoor entertainment & dining, which makes this outdoor kitchen a perfect fit for the expanding community. The cabinetry housing the grill is 10’3″ in length. Coming off the front of the right side, the section that houses the outdoor refrigeration unit is 5’2″ in length (as measured from the back of the grill cabinet). The combination of materials used to finish this gorgeous outdoor kitchen area resulted in a great final product.

Staying true to form where framing is concerned, as with all of our outdoor kitchens, the base is framed with aluminum studs and wrapped with a wet weather Hardie backer type of board. The façade is a stacked stone (Leonardo – follow for more options).

The countertop and backsplash are an exotic style of Crystalo granite. The translucent nature of the granite allows for the glow of under cabinet lighting to shine through. Not only did we pack this kitchen full of ambiance, but it also contains a full range of functionality. The backsplash is 4″ in height around most of the rear wall. The backsplash makes a dramatic rise to 36″ on center directly behind the barbecue grill, meeting the Tradewind 36″ Hood. This backsplash to hood design minimizes the typical maintenance needed from the pesky smoke residue (but we can’t live without it!). The countertop overhang located at the rear of the refrigerator cabinet is 6″ at the corners, it arcs to 10″ at the center (for a total depth of 39″ at the center!). We included an additional 10″ overhang off the right side of the refrigerator cabinet to maximize the prep and countertop space of the island. Not only is this overhang creating more counter space, but the designer arc gives the island a certain aesthetic appeal when compared to a traditional rectangular shaped countertop protrusion. This outdoor kitchen has tons of counter space as well as welcomed leg room for dining and lounging at the bar. We’re confident that most have experienced the discomfort of a small overhang. It’s something we had in mind when designing this beautiful, custom outdoor kitchen.

Verandah Community Located in Fort Myers, Florida – Elegant Outdoor Kitchens

The Imitation Barbeque Island Project at Verandah

This project was a repeat of a barbeque island we had built in the Verandah previously. The customer’s home was the same layout as their neighbor’s. They loved their neighbor’s outdoor kitchen configuration. Although the wall space in this area isn’t ideal, we were able to build an outdoor kitchen that was packed full of functionality and counter space. Who are we to argue with that kind of logic, when it works, it works.

The cabinet structure that houses the grill is 6’4″, with the perpendicular section that houses the refrigerator at 7’2″. The exposed sides of the island cabinets were finished with a Golden White stacked stone.
On the backside of the refrigerator cabinet, we added a 10″ granite overhang. The granite type for the counter-tops was a level 1 Amarillo Ornamental. We also used the same kind of granite for a 3 ft x 3 ft backsplash behind the grill. The backsplash is ideal when it concerns cleaning and overall upkeep of the island, which makes cleaning the smoke residue and build-up behind the grill simple.
In addition to the barbeque island, we also constructed a 6’8″ outdoor buffet, just like we had at their neighbor’s home.

The featured highlight of this project is the stacked stone backsplash located on the wall behind the grill cabinet; it cohesively ties the overall elements of the build together.

The Summer kitchen Project Overview

This modern outdoor living kitchen is marvelous, constructed in a traditional L-Shape, and built in a home located in Port LaBelle in Hendry Co, Florida. Since an existing outdoor kitchen rough-in didn’t exist, this was considered a “blank slate” project, where our opinion is concerned. There was an existing 5’3″ screened opening, and perpendicular to that opening, there was a 10’4″ space in between the dual pillars. The customer already had a Green Egg Smoker, and he wanted to incorporate his seasoned Green Egg into the project.  Also, he opted to add the following products to his modern outdoor living setup by Elegant Outdoor Kitchens of Fort Myers, Florida.

At our initial meeting, the customer selected the popular Golden White stacked stone, which ends up being the material that we use on the façade of the custom outdoor kitchen.  Due to the customer’s busy schedule, he selected his favored granite choice via photograph. Here at Elegant Outdoor Kitchens, we do our best to work around the client’s busy schedule, and on some rare occasions, come up with creative solutions that make the process as smooth and seamless as possible. For each outdoor kitchen build, we make a special trip to the granite yard.  The special trip allows us to pair the choice stacked stone sample with the current selections in the granite yard.  Most customers meet with us at the granite yard; others will opt out of the trip entirely.  In those cases, we take the stacked stone and pair it with various level 1 granite that matches the stacked stone that our client selected.  We’ll then email the photos to the customer for their final decision regarding granite.  In this case, the customer decided upon the level 1 Ouro Brazil granite with a half bullnose edge. The granite/stacked stone combination worked well, and the final product was extremely tasteful.

A Beautiful Summer Kitchen at the Preserve in Corkscrew

This outdoor kitchen was built in the Preserve at Corkscrew in Estero, Florida.  If you have skimmed our Portfolio long enough, you may notice the design looks very similar to another outdoor kitchen we did in this community.  It was no coincidence; these outdoor kitchens were built by next door neighbors.

When we initially met with this Customer, they had plans underway for a lanai extension and a roof covering and back wall (built using insulated panels).  When there are other pieces to the puzzle, we love getting involved early on in the process. This allows us to make suggestions and gives the homeowner time to tweak other projects so that when the outdoor kitchen is finished it looks like it was part of the original build.

In this summer kitchen we installed the:

The Customer upped the ante by pairing the Silver Travertine stacked stone with a beautiful Level 3 Snow White granite.  They also added a full backsplash centered behind the grill that was 33” high and 36” wide.  This larger backsplash means less maintenance to keep the area behind the grill clean and free of smoke residue.
